HEATHENS MISS OUT

Wednesday September 18, 2019
CUP kings Cradley missed out on a final spot after going down 55-35 at Belle Vue.

During the Dudley Wood days in the 80s Cradley were the most successful cup side - and more has followed in the modern era.

But the trip to the National Speedway Stadium was one step too far after Monday’s first leg defeat at Monmore.

The Anchor Logistics Heathens showed an improvement on their previous visit to Manchester but were always on the back foot.

Boss Will Pottinger said: “The guys had a proper go and I can see positives.

“We made a good start but we always knew how tough it was going to be. Belle Vue are a great side.”

Co-promoter Nigel Pearson said: “We can’t fault anybody for effort, the lads gave their all.

“Many people say we’ve overachieved this season but I think the lads should feel proud of what they’ve done.

“Whenever I go to Belle Vue it reminds me of what a wonderful club it is - and Manchester City Council deserve great credit for supporting speedway.”
